SKIN DISORDERS: ABSCESSES

Essential oils: make a compress using the following oils: chamomile, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, juniper, sandalwood, palmarosa, red thyme or tea tree. Apply to the swelling twice a day. As an antiseptic swab apply 3 drops of any of the above essential oils onto a cotton bud and dab on.

Herbs: make up a paste of slippery elm and water, then place over abscess as a poultice. Freshly crushed comfrey leaves used as a poultice and comfrey or golden seal are suitable ointments. Food: the following poultices can be used : linseed, red clover, bread, cooked apple, cabbage leaves and onions. Potatoes have a great drawing power, it helps to draw out the toxins within the abscess. Place slices of raw potato onto infected sores to help draw out the pus and the infection. A poultice made from dried peas, boiled until they are soft can be applied to boils or abscesses.

Kombucha: apply a small piece of kombucha culture as a poultice to the abscess, and cover with a dressing. Reapply twice a day. Bathe in between poultices with kombucha tea.
